Durmitor invites you to change pace and stay a while. For a first visit, choose a walk that leaves energy for relaxing. Consider an overnight stay rather than a packed day trip from Budva, so the drive does not consume the time you wanted to spend outdoors.
What to see
Durmitor National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Black Lake offers marked walking trails. Use Žabljak as a base and plan more demanding mountain routes separately from your first visit to the lake.
Getting there by car
Plan the route from Budva to Žabljak before departure and allow for breaks. Do not automatically add a high mountain scenic road: check its condition and seasonal access first. Ask the manager to match the car to your passengers and luggage, rather than its category alone.
A suggested plan
Use the first day for the drive and rest in Žabljak.
Choose a manageable walk by Black Lake.
Give the return drive its own part of the trip.
